The definition of Internet marketing insanity would be doing the same things over and over yet expecting a different result for your online business. In this article I want to talk about how Internet businesses are killed every day due to Internet marketing insanity.

1. You are in love with a product but nobody else is. I am a firm believer that you need to promote your products with belief in them. This is why review websites do so well on the Internet today.

It gives you the chance to tell all the good and bad things about a product you want to advertise. The best way to do this is to purchase a product and learn everything about it. If it is a product that you believe in you will be able to write a review in a way that gets your belief across without seeming like a sales letter.

However one problem I see with Internet marketers today is they continue to promote the same product over and over even when they're not making any sales. If you can honestly say that you have done everything possible to promote your product, and people still do not want to buy it, then it's time to move on to another product.

If you are not making any money, and you continue to promote something that's not profitable, you are committing Internet marketing insanity!

2. You convince yourself that you are promoting your business in a way that will generate traffic. However it has been 3 months now and you are only getting 5 visitors a day to your website!

Any rational person would step back at this point and say I need to find another way to promote my Internet business. The exception to this would be if you are happy getting four visitors a day to your site.

This is certainly Internet marketing insanity and a definite way to go out of business. You will never make any sales or make any money If you are not getting enough quality visitors to your site every day.

These are the two primary forms of Internet marketing insanity I see all of the time. The obvious way around this is to find a quality products that people have a need for, an interest in, and that you can create a desire for.

Then market these products to the best of your ability. Find ways to get more traffic and your online business will survive another day. Stop the Internet marketing insanity!

Hate them or love them the internet marketing gurus are there, probably in your mail-box every few days. We all know they are making millions, (often, but not always, from people just like us), and they are entitled to. Let's face it; most of us would love to be making the incomes they are.



There is maybe just a hint of jealousy involved then when we gripe about how they are "ripping everyone off!" Very often they do have something of value to offer, the hard bit is to know what is worth taking from them, and what we should leave alone. How can you tell?



If you have been in the internet marketing game for a while you have probably already begun to develop a network of fellow marketers who you trust. If you haven't it is a good idea to start.



Forums are probably your most helpful starting point. The Warrior Forum is probably the largest and best known internet marketing forum, although many people are not as happy with it as they once were. There are plenty of other forums around in the internet marketing niche too. Just do a Google search and have a look around. You are bound to find one or two that fit with your personal style.



Get to know people and keep up with the buzz. Rather than clicking on everything everyone has to offer, look for and ask for advice on the latest up-coming products. What are the seasoned internet marketers' views? Is the guru selling the latest product a person who has gained some credibility through their previous packages, or are they considered a money-grabbing schemer who will rip you off? Read, look, listen and then make up your own mind before making any purchase decisions.



Learn to read "hypotenuse". If you are going to be an internet marketer, you will need to understand how sales copy reads - chances are you will need to learn to do a bit of writing in what I call hypotenuse yourself. Be aware that whatever sales copy you are reading is going to be full of those words that we find so irresistible.



Admire the handiwork by all means, (Wow, they really have me wanting this product), but at the same time recognize and analyze it for what it is. Get to the meat of the product. What exactly IS being offered and is it something you actually need? Is there enough of what you need to improve your own internet marketing to warrant paying the asking price?



Keep up to date with the gurus' blogs too. You will soon pick up who supports who and even more importantly who actually provides valuable information on their blog. This will not only give you an insight into the person and how they run their business, but you may well be a able to use some of that information in your own internet marketing business.



Don't expect to see super - secrets revealed here, but do your own detective work, link pieces together that will help you personally and leave the hype alone.

When I first started marketing on the Internet, most marketers were using the same basic marketing tools consisting of Safelists, Submitters, Hit Exchanges, etc. Nowadays, savvy Internet Marketers rely much less on those "stone age" marketing tools and instead make use of marketing strategies including video with sites like YouTube, and also make wide use of social neworking sites such as MySpace and Facebook.

While Social Networking has now become the preferred method of doing business for many, some of these new concepts can be so crowded with people using them that although effective at the core, they may not be as effective to the individual because of many factors involved. To use a mechanical concept, the new concepts are brilliant, but there are simply too many moving parts for the new marketer, and there are too many people doing the exact same thing which dilutes it's power beyond what the old school techniques brought. If you think about it, since the premise is the same, you could still effectively use some of the tried and true traffic generating methods such as traffic exchanges to bring in traffic, and in fact many people are starting to realize the power in incorporating these concepts back into their marketing plan because they bring a good mix of old and new school concepts. In the world of internet marketing, traffic is your life blood, so you should try to use any potential traffic generating resource at your disposal, regardless if it is something everyone is using or not. The bottom line is that your barometer should be results, not popularity of the tool.

FireFox allows you to set up groups of traffic exchanges that can be set up and configured with a simple click of a button. Setting up several groups extends your surfing power thus your ability to dynamically boost your traffic generation power. In this concept the name of the game is brows-ability, the more you browse the more traffic you can create for your site. Using this concept, you can load multiple pages by using a separate tab for each. You will never have to wait for timers to wind down on certain pages which could take up to 30 seconds a page. The beauty of this system is it doesn't matter if you physically are looking at the page, it just has to be loaded on your computer and technically it is.

Lastly, to get the best out of your traffic exchanges you should be using a broadband internet connection. Having a fast connection is essential and allows multiple pages to load faster. Since the page has to be loaded for a certain amount of time and the timer starts when it is loaded, it would be in your best interests to make sure it loads fast. Keep your computer defragged, your internet cache empty, and your internet connection fast. It may also be a good idea to have plenty of memory on your computer. Your computer is part of the equation and should be a decent speed with a decent amount of memory to handle all the browsing activity at once.Your best bet is to take some time and read up on the traffic exchange concept, and really get to know how it all works. On the other hand, competition is very stiff; there are thousands or millions of other internet marketing businesses that offer what you offer.


So what can you do to set your internet marketing business apart? What can you do to make sure that a prospect who comes to your website or sales page will believe that what you say your product will do is actually true? While there are many different forms of Internet marketing strategy that you can employ, one of the easiest and most reliable forms is results tracking. When you track the results of your Internet advertising campaigns, you can quickly learn what works and what doesn't work. For obvious reasons, this method is much better than a random hit and miss advertising method, which can turn out to be quite costly, not to mention ineffective.


Of course, this form of Internet marketing strategy isn't anything new. Direct marketers have been using results tracking for years, and it can easily be adapted for the Internet. The key is to come up with a way to measure the results of Internet advertising accurately. If you're tracking is not accurate, there is little to no point in doing it.


To make sure their tracking results are accurate, many direct marketers use a trick known as split testing. Split testing uses a specific key or tracking device to associate a sale with the advertisement that produced the sale.


For example, in a print ad, the key or tracking device that may be used could be a specific phone number or extension. When a customer utilizes the number or extension, the marketer knows exactly which ad drove the customer to seek out the advertised product or service. If the same ad produced repeated sales, the marketer knows that the advertising is effective and worth doing again. On the other hand, if the ad didn't even produce enough sales to pay for the advertising, then the marketer knows not to try that again.


The same split testing method used by direct marketers can easily be adapted and incorporated into your Internet marketing strategy, allowing you to determine exactly how effective or ineffective your Internet advertising is.


To track the success and failure of Internet advertising, most Internet marketers typically use some sort of tracking software to associate the key with sales. A simple way to do this is to develop two web pages that feature two different ads. You can then track the sales results of each ad to see which worked best, and if necessary, adjust your Internet marketing strategy accordingly.


For example, let's say that on one of the pages, you received a total of 2,000 page views and 20 sales. This means that you have a success rate of one percent. Not bad. This is the average for both direct mail advertising and Internet advertising. Now that you have this information, you have statistics you can rely on. You can test other pages to see if they perform better or worse. You can also adapt the original pages to see if your changes have any effect on the sales outcome. For example, try adjusting headlines, graphics, text, and anything else you can think of. Then, compare the results of these changes to the original results.


After you have tested different variations of your Internet advertising, you can quickly determine exactly what works and what doesn't. Your Internet market strategy and any future advertising that you do can then be adjusted accordingly. If you succeed, you may be able to double your sales without throwing away good money over and over again on advertising that doesn't work.

Last Monday, my husband asked me if I was really marketing on the internet. I replied that internet marketing was what I have been doing for over 5 years now, in case he hadn't noticed! But he asked again, are you really marketing on the internet or just internet marketing?


I gave a withering please explain what on earth are you getting at look!


Well, he asked me if I was marketing internet schemes or using the internet for marketing real usable product to end consumers (including their pets).


This was like peeling onions! What was he getting at? What he was getting me to realise is whether all my effort over the past 5 years was really geared to recruiting others to recruit others to recruit others with the end-user product (e.g., the dog food or health juice) being secondary to any money incentives.


Then I realised what he was getting at. He was right of course – until recently, when I came across affiliate marketing for information products. Even here, his gentle needling was relevant as most information products which, when applied, just do not work (e.g., some dog food, though well packaged and marketed to humans, is just plain ignored by the dog because it smells and tastes bad – to the dog.)


Well, after much searching, downloading, reading, cursing and discarding I have found a real information product that does work extremely well when applied. This product was developed by Nathan Stark, who has earned the right because he has adapted for the internet the same proven offline marketing disciplines that ensured his success in marketing, wait for it … pots and pans … prior to his internet ventures – which are now extraordinarily successful.


When I downloaded his ebook I was pleasantly surprised, then tremendously excited, because the content did what its sales page said it would do – plus more! This is because it provides a clear path for anyone to follow to generate short-term cash without a website or product and then, building on this, how to generate long term residual cash and which can fund experts to set up your site for you – if you want to go that far.


It's brutally honest and warns you that you have to work your heart out, at least in the initial stages, to set it up to generate cash in the short-term. What I particularly liked here is that with the specific, clear directions my workload will be results, not task, driven. Worrying about downlines, keeping them enthused, getting them to conference calls and phoning them will be no more. The only website I will want to look up from now on will be my account in Clickbank telling me commissions earned – and to see this growing exponentially. No doubt you would like to be in this picture too.


So if you wake up in a cold sweat wondering if you are really in the internet recruitment business rather than the internet marketing business, ask yourself these questions – will the end consumer compensate me happily with a well-earned commission? Can I get a never-ending supply, and an increasing supply, of such people? Or am I sweating on my downlines keeping their monthly subscriptions up to date and not slink off into the night and kill off my income?
